ABOUT

Breaking Boundaries is an apparel line focused on highlighting women in sports across the world. The brand was created by Mana Alison, a former college basketball player, turned women’s tackle football player.

While unearthing her passion for football, she discovered the struggles that the sport and its players face. Most people aren’t aware that women’s tackle football even exists. Mana wanted to highlight the dedicated girls and women that sacrifice their time away from their families, friends, and significant others, to play a sport that they love, with no compensation. They simply do it for the PASSION of the game! The lack of awareness and support (and of course her passion for football) is what sparked the creation of Miss Gridiron, an apparel line focused solely on women’s tackle football.

When Miss Gridiron hit the market in 2013, the support was overwhelming and the brand grew rapidly, not only in the United States, but internationally as well. As time went on, Mana realized that women in ALL sports struggle to get the same recognition and support as men. Therefore, after 2 1/2 years of designing apparel for women’s tackle football, she decided to expand the line to include other women’s sports as well. This is when Breaking Boundaries Apparel was born.

The brand celebrates, encourages and empowers all women in sports that are BREAKING BOUNDARIES around the world!

Owner | Creative Director

Mana played college basketball from 2000-2004 for LAVC in California and St. Andrews in North Carolina. After college, Mana felt “there was a void”—she started playing in a few recreation leagues and began long distance running. She has ran in two marathons and several triathlons. In 2011, Mana was introduced to flag football and played on two co-ed teams where she led the league in most TDs by a female. This ultimately led to her playing tackle football for the California Quake for two seasons. She played for the Swedish National Football Team at the Women’s World Championship in Finland in 2013. Then, in 2014 Mana joined the Carolina Phoenix, with whom she has played with for four season as a Wide Receiver and Defensive Back. Mana is a 2-time Western All-Star and 2-time Eastern All-Star. She also adds 2015 and 2016 Founders Bowl Champ to her accomplishments with the Carolina Phoenix.
